Since the negotiations of the TTIP started, many objections have arised. This opposition is lead by organizations in different parts of the world.
Some of the arguments against the TTIP defended by these groups are the following:
1. This agreement would promote common standards regarding labor rights, consumer rights or data protection. In some terms, the US is more flexible like for example when we talk about transgenic food which is forbidden in Europe but allowed in the US.
2. More transparency and details about the negotiation are required in order to quieten some suspicions like for example who would be the members of the Regulatory Cooperation Council.
3. There is clause setting the arbitrary mechanism among companies and states for possible disputes related to possible foreign investment in any of the signing countries. This has caused a disturbance among sectors against TTIP telling that this clause would benefit companies’ interests before corporate interests defended by the State.
4. The possible opening of strategic public sectors to private companies could condition the European social rights. However, the European Parliament is being really careful regarding this question which incorporation to the agreement is still to be decided.
5. Markets will be much more competitive, which can be dangerous for medium-sized and small companies which would compete with bigger ones which would offer lower prices, more products and more advanced technologies.
